There is also another caveat to all this: Because of your location,
which may arguably be the best location of any active 472 station in
NA aside from VO1NA, you might not need to observe the same high
levels of DST that are necessary for guys in my area and points West
to see the "big" TA openings. Which leads me believe that there is
another mechanism in play preventing your TA - another one of those
teeth on the key I was mentioning previously. Maybe we are back to
"conditions" being "too quiet".

It seems to move around and rarely have I observed sessions over the
last year years where it is a huge night of both TA and TP. Its
typically one or the other. I've got some ideas about this behavior
but its beyond the scope of this discussion.

But there is another angle to all of this: You have a number of QRO
heavy hitters in the West in addition to VK4YB and a few other VK's
that have a tremendous amount of antenna horsepower coupled with
fantastic locations. The higher latitudes of many European stations
are likely more challenging to reach given that RF tries to move away
from regions of high electron density, which is comparatively close.
In other words I consider the path the VK and JA to be cleaner than
the path to Europe, which requires quieter geomagnetic conditions and
other factors.

This is all just talk and it doesn't mean anything at the end of the
day. Just observations and trying to put puzzle pieces together.
