Since this is a voluntary effort on the part of those who care for the site, I urge patience.  Your message, "how do we keep this from happening again", has the tone of an angry customer or boss.  Unless you are paying for something I don't think you can really take that attitude.  Why not approach it from more helpful angle:  "What can I (or we) do to help?"
