Also curious is why didn't VK2DDI hear what VK2XGJ heard. They appear to be located very closely. We know David is using the 30m long wire but I am not aware of what XGJ is using.
I realized I sent an additional reply directly to larry based on what i wrote below. The comments below work for me as I was in full sun by the time Rudy made it but doesn't explain Larry since he is only about 200 miles North of Rudy (I think thats what I recall). Maybe the latitude is back in play since I think BDQ John was active and he is further north and did not make it. SWPC numbers are better but still not great so maybe its making a big impact.
All very interesting. I like these kinds of mysteries. Always more fun when you arent expecting it!

Larry only thing I can figure about not making VK in this session is that Rudy's ping came very late compared to our ZL pings. If we are trying to preserve that terminator position it would stand to reason that the station on the western end would be further west.. You figure that the VK was somewhere around 1500 miles west of the ZL. Probably also helps to be later because like here, the man made noise abates the later it gets usually.
i think I am saying that right.
73. wonder who will be next? XXM? The PNW VE contingent? XPQ?

Besides the spot mentioned by John below, both Rudy /20 and myself were
heard down under:
2014-09-01 12:36 WD2XSH/20 0.475682 -25 0 CN83lu 20
VK2XGJ QF55jl 12305 241
2014-09-01 10:22 WH2XGP 0.475696 -27 0 DN07dg 10
ZL2AFP RF91ah 11372 225
Interesting that Rudy was copied by the VK and John and I were copied by
thew ZL. don't really know what to make of that.....

It was hard to really put ones finger on what was "wrong" with the band. There was a major wx/noise maker in KS and Ken XXM had commented that it was pretty tough copy for him in OK, which was evidenced by a period of no reports of my signal. I went back to bed at 0845z with the intention of checking the band again at 1000z.

I stayed about 5 minutes and see this morning that Eric commented that he thought the condx were improvings about 2 minutes after I had left. I suppose that is for the best that I missed him because had I hung around and we had snuck off for a CW QSO, this would have been missed:

Anyway, that is later than the VK2DDI spot from last monday morning... Seems sunday nights ->monday mornings are in the sweet spot at the moment.
