I understand, Andrew. Most hams are in that boat today. I am one of the old
ones who still uses it regularly....with a bug. A 1936 MacKey.

My favorite mode is CW and I have been using it for 58 years (at last count)
so I really should be fairly good at it by now. ;-)

I use it every day to handle traffic on the HF bands.

I only wish I was able to use 600 meters.

In addition to very difficult antenna issues, the main problem I have here is
an incredible noise level, not one bit of which is coming from my own home.

In fact, the entire city of Moscow, Idaho is plagued with an incredible noise
level. We have not yet been able to track it all down either. On 80 meters
here at my home, it is a constant 10db over S-9, rising to 20db over S-9 at
times.

I have connected my rig to a battery and turned off the house main breaker
and the noise level doesn't change.

Oh, well... :-(

Maybe in my next life...
