[600MRG] Regen Rx? I'm Missing Something?

Old designs are not necessarily bad designs... The RAL7/RAK JAN receiver
designs of the forties are still hard to beat in performance even today in
some applications
(such as noise reduction at 630Meters and lower in frequencies). Recently in
Radio Controlled Choker (used in logging ops in the woods products industry)
designs they went back to the use of the Regen design for better reliability
and toughness in
Highlead rigging Logging operations (using bipolar transistors of course).
It helped but even a Horn can be broken off of a Large Black smiths anvil. I
watched a logger do it once. High "G" forces from swinging choker leads
slamming together tend to break things, which is why they call them choker
bells because they ring like a bell when they hit. Incidentally those
receivers are used at 72mhz.

Hi all from Iowa.

As Frank, K3DZ, said "As a nostalgic topic, great!" Sometimes the really
olde designs and stuff are surprising in what they can do. (That does not
necessarily apple to me. I am 81 and have been a ham for a bit over
60 years....)

If someone mentioned the autodyne receiver it slipped past me. An
interesting item is at: Hi all from Iowa.

If anyone mentioned the autodyne circuit I missed it. A good description is
at:

.htm

Shades of a Hartley oscillator.

I have several olde radio books that say something about regenerative
receivers. One big concern was their strong radiation. I have talked with
several radio men from the WW-II era that confirmed that. So, the addition
of an RF stage served the two purposes of isolation and added sensitivity.

the table that a recent design SDR receiver, or for that matter, highly
semi-digital / semi analog receiver does not offer? As a nostalgic topic,
great! I have no problem with that pursuit. The antique "aficionado" can
roll his own using traditional hollow-state technology, restore to some
extent a classic regen, or construct an all solid state regen receiver
employing the epitome of analog circuit design techniques.
