Gentlemen:

     To answer several questions:

     (1) The November special event is a commemoration
of the International Distress Frequency. As such, the
preferred mode of operation is CW.

     (2) There is no exception to the rules for this
event and WD2XSH stations are limited to the frequencies
and modes specified in M09-1, M09-6, and M11-5.

     (3) In general, US experimental stations may
communicate ONLY with other US experimental (part 5)
stations and amateur stations may communicate ONLY with
other amateur stations. However, if you are in a QRM
situation you can do a brief "frequency-management"
exchange with the station in the other service. Just
don't make it into a regular QSO.

     (4) It should be OK for a US experimental
station to send a beacon transmission and note that
reports could be filed with an amateur station on
an amateur frequency. Hams who wanted to file a
report would call your amateur station and you
would acknowledge the report via your amateur station.

630-METER SPECIAL EVENT
November 12, 2016

On November 3, 1906, the Berlin treaty made 500 kHz
the International Distress Frequency. 630-meter
operators will commemorate the Berlin Treaty with a
special event on Saturday night, November 12. Three
different groups will participate:

" U.S. Experimental Operators,
" Canadian Amateurs, and
" Maritime Radio Historical Society.

U.S. Part-5 Experimental Operators including WD2XSH
stations and others will operate in the 472 - 479 kHz
band. They will use CW transmissions for QSOs and
beacons with special messages. There may also be some
operation on 500 kHz itself.

Canadian Amateurs will also engage in CQ QSOs in the
472 - 479 kHz band. They will also participate in
cross-band QSOs with amateurs operating on 80 and 40
meters.

The Maritime Radio Historical Society will activate
its KSM/KPH transmitter at Bolinas, CA for a mini
"Night of Nights" with special messages and bulletins.

Detailed information will be posted on a number of
sites as the event approaches, including:
