If you want I can send 3 papers written on LF propagation and ducting 
via plasma
tubes,  that corresponds also to earth weather conditions,  these 
"ducts" or tubes
are trackable in real time via the gear in VK land,   I have watched 
this for quite a
few years after noticing the "ducting" effect here in KH6 related to 
weather pressure
fronts as they approached Hawaii.   Finally with the "visual" seeing the 
plasma
ducts,  tracking them etc from Cleo Loi in VK land,   it pretty much 
confirms what I
have been seeing in practice, the plasma tubes are effected by electric 
field build
up in the approaching frontal systems.  They move in relation to the 
weather so to
speak.
This plasma tube ducting apparently works down in the VLF and even 
whistler bands.
At least I dont feel like I was hearing things for the past 10 years out 
here,  most of
my tracking was on 160 "ducting"  but I think it relates to 600M as well.

What got me interested in this was the big fad of space weather 
effecting ducting on
160 and a few articles written about it,  problem was the artcles 
written had bogus
data,   data that did not agree with the "theory" was discarde from the 
same logs
that the good data was used from.
Bad theory based on bad data,   much like other data these days being 
used that is
massaged by large amounts to push an agenda,  but thats not for this 
discussion.

Does this relate at all to what you are trying to say with "patch" 
mapping?  never heard
that term before.   I am not the smartest apple that fell off the cart,
