 There are two pieces of test equipment I value above all others:  the Simpson 260 VOM and the Millen 90651 GDO with HF & LF coils.  So solid, so reliable - don't do radio without 'em!

Keep an eye on eBay - the James Millen grid-dip meters have been going for low prices (<$50) and a couple times they even had the low-frequency coil set.
