[600MRG] Daytime reception

Fritz,

Is that strictly E-layer prop or is that even known?  As recommended to me by another station, I look at the ionosonde data at http://car.uml.edu/common/DIDBFastStationList for the very few stations actually providing current data.  Closest to me with consistent data are Boulder and Austin.  I believe closest to you will be Millstone hill.  I look at FoEp as my usual indicator and when it gets to .470, thats usually pretty consistent with good activity.  I've never seen it below about 2 Mhz during the day so how do those measurements come into play with these anomalies that claude and I have related... yeah, I know, thats a loaded, broad question with many variables to consider.

Maybe a better question would be if you could recommend a good reference for understanding MF/LF propagation.  Dr. Bob Brown, NM7M, was a great reference with guides to HF and lowband propagation  but unfortunately as an SK, there is much of that information lost.  is there a good reference left today in detailing prop at low MF?

Thanks!

John XIQ

Gentlemen:

We have seen occasional long-distance reception
during the daytime since we started the 500-kHz experiment.
It happens in the winter and mostly in more northern
latitudes.  What is happening is that the D layer is not
getting heavily ionized and sky-wave signal is able to
make it through at useable levels.
