Hi Bob: Everyone has their personal preferences, and a particular software may
perform better on one PC, and OS than it does on another.. I have had PC
crashes using WSPR 2.11 for unexplainable reasons.. 2.11 has difficulty uploading
spots at times, and I have audio errors too.. 2.11 generally works well. I have to this
date, since installing WSPR-X, had no problems with it at all. It performs flawlessly
" On MY machine " But !! on someone else's PC it might not run as well..
One thing I discovered about WSPR-X is that it seems to have an AGC within the
software.. WSPR-X on my PC decodes weak signals better using a low audio input
level, where WSPR 2.11 decodes the same regardless of the input level..
Take this for what it is... " My Experiment ", The best decoding in WSPR-X is when
I set the slider bar up to 50, and the slowly bring my input level up, watching the
green level indicator bouncing up and down.. There is a spot where the indicator
stops moving, and holds steady.. A slight increase in input does not raise the
indicator, almost like an AGC action, of course I can push the input higher, and the
indicator begins to rise.. On my PC, the level indicator stops bouncing at -32 dB..
I back the input level down until the level indicator just begins to bounce again.
This is usually around -28 dB , then when a stronger station comes on, the level
indicator generally rises slightly, and holds steady, and weaker stations come thru.
If I turn the input up too much, weaker signals seem to get masked by the noise
and don't decode as well. You, or anyone else may not get the same results though.
I do like the WSPR mode for sure.. Have fun with your experiments..

I re-ran my WSPR vs WSPRX comparison last night.

I had WSPR 173 reports and WSPRX 184 reports. So this time WSPRX as
 slightly better than WSPR.

I still had significantly more CPU shown for WSPR than WSPRX (from
Windows Task Manager). 55:36 for WSPR  and 10:45 for WSPRX.
