That's not entirely true.  The board that XKA John is producing is actually a 
better product in that it has drastically better filtering, makes more power, 
and has capabilities to be GPS disciplined.  Now, those changes can be 
implemented into the G3XBM design but the average guy is not going to be able to 
do that without some tooling up.  My first transmit downconverter WAS the G3XBM 
model, in fact I built several, and the XKA design is superior.   What I like 
about XKA John's board is that *I* get to build it, and there is a high quality 
board so no more dead bug/Manhattan design.  The toroids seem to be better than 
the PVC wound coils and I have the option to hook up an external reference which 
is huge for the longer cycle digital modes.  My G3XBM box would start to drift 
after about 4 minutes making it unfit for use with the modes that were 5 minutes 
and longer.

This is fun stuff!

Might as well go part 5 , since it doesn't appear we are going to get any ham 
privileges anytime soon . I looked up the transverter that he has and it is one 
that has been around a long time from the UK and just someone in the US making 
them now . Even more basic and simple than the 2 or 3 I have around here that I 
have built , from scratch , off my own scratch pad .
