Folks,Before I moved from my 1.5 acre antenna farm, I modeled using my 160-M Horizontal loop as a top loaded 479 kHz vertical. The RF return was a single counterpoise wire with a series capacitor.Email me if you are interested in a couple of PDFs.73Joe O, K I 5 F J at ARRL.netNNNN

Thanks all for your inputs..

Am always looking at efforts to improve and then this litz wire showed
up, can't have too much success...
So far vertical loops trump ground plane installations around here
especially on poor soil.. Is also real quiet on receive in comparison
when the S9 hash isn't there, barely ever these days...
Realizing that the plane of the loop looks down on power lines by 2+
miles headed in my favored direction towards the ocean, NE/SE helps, not
so much in SW direction it seems...

Bill Ashlock - pleasant memories: Yes, litz in the wild requires taking
care of, first the sleeve covering goes away real quick and in it's
crude and natural state will fall apart, strand by strand. Am looking to
hoist this 500' of what looks like #5 diameter equivalent AWG, then see
what the cir. mils. add up to in efficiency..

Thanks Jim, that clears up the copper diameter vs. litz, still a good
bet... At this power I'm sure it won't even get warm...
Then again it would not have to take up so much real estate inside of
the loop either, say 50' x 50' would surely beat what I have now...

Mike WA1OMI; looks like Lenz's Law, some effects of that have been
overcome like placing a diode across the armature of a relay coil or a
damper tube in an old TV flyback, or a snubber diode in large radar
transmitters..

Hi Larry, that pretty much looks the picture.. What I have in mind now
is to hoist a right triangle vertical on to it's adjacent leg thence
returning from the vertical ( radiating ) element up maybe 75'( opposite
leg ) and fed down 45 degrees to the angle theta position of the
hypotenuse adding some inductor until the current max is half way up the
opposite leg, then add cap across the feed and couple there...
At worse it will be critically coupled to the present loop for some
reduction in 'R'...

Blue skies, that's all... Waiting for good spring day...  Thanks all...
