In the same thinking:  I'm playing with JT9 on the bench.  It seems that most go from a computer to audio into the audio of a transmitter and then to the air.  Several oscillators involved.  I'm probably missing on the way to generate the signal directly much as is done on the SoftRock for WSTJ.  That way only the data stream needs to be sent.  It seems that fewer oscillators and mixers would be better.
