I'm back in business!  My thanks to all the stations reporting me last
night.    I've rebuilt my transmitting antenna and erected a scaled up two
element DK6ED array (QST March 2015) for receiving.

I will not transmit tonight however.  My amplifier still injects a bit of
noise into my transmitting antenna while on but not transmitting which is
picked up by the rx antenna.  It's not too bad but I want to test the rx
antenna more carefully so I'll only listen for the next few nights.
Modeling says I should have a F/B of >25 dB and a F/R (front-to-rear) >18
dB.  The pattern maximum can be switched 180 degrees, from 70 degrees to 250
degrees.  I also have it set up to operate in two modes: two elements driven
180 degrees out of phase or as a single element.  The single element mode
has inferior F/R but about 15 dB more gain and a broader pattern.  I noticed
last night that when I shifted from a single element to the phased pair that
the WSPR signals from the stations north of me (XSV, XGP, BDQ) all dropped
substantially.  If you guys are looking at my reports in the data base and
see these sudden 10-15 dB changes in S/N that's me playing with the
switching.  For the single element the RDF=7.7 but for the two elements
phased the RDF is almost 12, which approaches a good Beverage.  My antenna
is 150' long, a comparable Beverage would be >3000'  There is a pattern null
at about 340 degrees which affects the station signals to the north of me.
The antenna has been optimized for 630m but it looks pretty good on both
160m and 2200m although on 2200m I'll have to add a 40 dB amplifier to get
enough signal!

I'm going to explore the characteristics of this new antenna using WSPR
signals, my local noise source (the factory next door!) and lightning noise
when available.  The modeling predicts good things, we'll see!

73, Rudy
