Gentlemen:
Is there interest among the operators in
holding a special event to commemorate the
anniversary of the Berlin Treaty (3 November 1906)
that created 500 kHz as the international distress
frequency?
This year, the event would be held on the
weekend of Oct 31 - Nov 1 - Nov. 2. This would
be a CW event and the main activities would be
- Running beacons with special anniversary
messages, perhaps followed by special QSLs.
- Simulation of maritime comms - calling CQ
and establishing the QSO on the calling frequency
and then QSYing to another frequency. Silent
periods were observed.
- The designated calling frequency per [M11-5]
is 475.0 kHz. Nearly everyone should be able
to use this frequency.
- Those who still can use 500 kHz itself for the
calling frequency. With the XSH license ending
next summer, this will be the last chance to
operate on the 495 - 510 band.
This seems early to think about the event, but
if we want to get into QST, we have to be early.
