"Which is the material that will produce the most inductance, handle the
most
power safely at 400 to 500 kc/s?"
snip

First, there is an easier way than hand-winding a toroid to get your choke
or resonant circuit.
"E" cores are in the transformer to match 50 ohms to the antenna input and
are the inductors in the PI-L network in the 600 meter exciters I built.
It is much easier to wind a bobbin and assemble the "E" cores than to pull a
dozen or more feet of wire through a toroid without damaging the insulation.
If you need more inductance you can stack the "E" cores and glue up a bobbin
to fit the pair.
Second, the manufacturers are willing to tell you which material they
recommend for frequency and power. You may need to gap the cores to reduce
heating.
Third, if you tell them it is for an experiment they may send you what you
need as a "sample" (free).
"Magnetics" helped me.
